Conference, Seminar and Short Course attendance

Staff may apply to attend conferences, seminars or short courses provided by external providers which are relevant to their role and specific responsibilities at Curtin. Short courses are courses of short duration which would not normally lead to a qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Approval may be given for leave from normal duties and/or full or part payment of costs.

The level of financial support granted takes into consideration the nature of the conference and the staff member’s role as participant or presenter.

Applications detailing how attendance will develop skills relevant to the staff member’s area of responsibility and contribute to their professional development should be made through the line manager to the Head of School/Area for recommendation and approval by the delegated authority in line with the approved School/Area processes.

Where attendance at a conference, seminar, short course or similar activity requires intra-state, interstate or international travel, application for travel support is made via the Travel Form  in accordance with the Travel Procedures.
