Leaving the University

The following information is intended to assist staff members with a smooth transition from the University


Information for staff leaving the University

Notice periods apply if you are covered by a Certified Agreement, unless alternative arrangements are negotiated with your line manager:

  • Academic fixed term and continuing staff: not less than 13 weeks written notice
  • Professional and General fixed term and continuing staff: not less than 4 weeks written notice
  • Sessional and Casual staff: at least one hour notice.

Staff Exiting Information is provided to assist staff with information on the administrative and procedural matters of leaving the University.

Staff exit survey is intended to provide you with an opportunity to share your thoughts and perspective on working at the University. The confidential information will be used to assist Curtin to create a better work experience for current and future staff.

Should you prefer to provide feedback in person, PAC can arrange a face-to-face exit interview. Please contact PAC on (08) 9266 9000.

Managing Information when Leaving the University: It is your responsibility to ensure that any records in your custody are dealt with in a proper manner. It is important to follow these guidelines prior to leaving the University.

Available services:

  • As a staff member you may access counselling through the Employee Assistance Program. This is also available for 3 months after you have ceased employment at the University.
  • The Office of Ethics, Equity and Social Justice are available to discuss matters relating to equal employment opportunity and diversity practices.

Information for line managers

The following information is provided in order for you to assist your staff member as they prepare to leave the University:

  • Inform People and Culture immediately on notice of a staff member’s resignation to ensure all pay and entitlement arrangements are made in a timely manner.
  • Staff Exiting Information is provided to assist you and your staff member with information on the administrative and procedural matters of leaving the University, including the staff exit checklist.
  • Encourage staff to provide feedback to the University through an exit interview and/or complete the online Staff exit survey.
  • Organise a farewell function in the staff member’s work area and invite members of their family to attend if they wish.  Refer to the Incidental Expenditure Guidelines for more information on organising such events.
  • Advise relevant members of the Senior Executive Team of planned farewell functions so they may attend or find an alternative means of expressing their appreciation and best wishes.
  • If needed, People and Culture will provide service information for farewell speeches. Contact PAC on (08) 9266 9000.
  • Inform staff of the availability of the Employee Assistance Program for up to three months after cessation of employment.
